How can I add some "zip" to my envelopes without breaking the bank?

Answered by the experts at EU Services

Question:
I would like to add some "zip" to my envelopes to really make them stand out from the crowd. I'm considering doing a three or four color design instead of our typical two color look. Any suggestions?

Answer:
There are multiple options for adding color to envelopes. When creating your design, you must initially decide if you are going to produce the envelope as a pre-litho piece (printed on a flat sheet, then die cut and converted) or print on an already converted, unprinted envelope. Pre-litho envelopes offer the most flexibility for printing and conversion, since everything from the paper stock to the finished size can be custom. They can take up to 6 weeks to produce, however, depending on the envelope manufacturer's scheduling. You might consider adding an additional color in the Jet envelope printing process. Jet presses can run two different colors in one pass and add a third color in a second pass. The key to adding the third color is to make sure that it doesn't require close registration with the first two. You may also want to consider using a color to tint the envelope. This gives the look of a pre-litho envelope, but without the time and cost investment.
