Identify Fonts with Your iPhone
Answered by Jay Nelson, Editor and Publisher, Design Tools Monthly

Question:
I understand there's a website that will identify a scanned sample of type. But taking a scanner on location isn't convenient, and scanning product packaging isn't easy. Is there a portable solution?

Answer:
But of course! You're referring to the WhatTheFont feature at www.MyFonts.com, which attempts to identify a font from a sample image you upload, and it's almost always successful. And now there's a free iPhone app that lets you snap a photo of some text (from directly within the app), and upload it for identification.

The identified font can then be explored in Safari on your iPhone, or the app can email a URL to you for later exploration. It also works with photos saved in your iPhoto library, in case you want to "snap now and process later".

Get it at www.new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/iPhone.
