What ink works best on uncoated smooth premium text paper?

Answered by Sabine Lenz, founder, PaperSpecs.com

Question:
I am getting conflicting information as to which type of ink works best on uncoated smooth premium text paper. Some say conventional ink. Others say high solid/low solvent. This is for general commercial sheet fed offset.

Question:
The high-solid ink definitely is the better way to go on a smooth uncoated sheet.

As a general rule, conventional inks have a higher oil than solid content, compared to inks with a high-solid formulation. The high-solid is an ink with high resin and pigment content but low oil or solvent content. This formula allows the ink to dry faster, which in the end leads to less dot gain on press, especially on an uncoated sheet.
