Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington (ADCMW)

The Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington (ADCMW), is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization of professionals and students in the fields of graphic design, photography, illustration, and individuals from allied areas that support these efforts. We are the oldest and largest organization of graphic design professionals in the mid-Atlantic region.

The ADCMW was formed in 1953 to:

  • Advance the quality of service and the standards of integrity, honor and courtesy among those actively engaged in the field of graphic design
  • Foster a fraternal spirit among the members
  • Promote a code of professional ethics and rules of conduct that encourages and promotes honest and fair dealings between art directors and clients, associates, government, and the general public
  • Offer guidance and promote the welfare of students planning to enter the profession
  • Sponsor educational and social activities
  • And increase the awareness and status of the graphic design profession in our community

We accomplish these goals primarily through programs, lectures, and meetings offered to members and the general public throughout the year.

We also:

  • Produce FullBleed, HalfBleed, and other publications to keep members informed on changes in the graphic design profession
  • Sponsor the Annual Show, the largest graphic design competition in the mid-Atlantic region, now in its 47th year
  • Organize programs, competitions and scholarships for regional graphic design students
  • And promote and enforce our Code of Fair Practice
