What really qualifies as a postcard according to USPS standards?

Question:
What really qualifies as a postcard according to USPS standards?

Answer:
The USPS specifications for postcards are very narrow. To qualify for postcard rates, pieces must be between 3 1/2" x 5 and 4 1/4" x 6". Anything larger mails at letter size rates. The minimum thickness for postcards is 7 pt. (9 pt for larger than postcard size). Have your supplier test any stock you're considering using if you're uncertain of its weight.

Double postcards, or folded cards with BRCs (business reply cards), qualify for postcard rates only if the attached card is a true BRC. This means the second panel of the card must be a reply device that can be mailed back, and the return address panel must be folded inward. These pieces also need a wafer seal at the top or bottom - wherever the open edge of the fold is located.
